Watch Your Language!

Be careful, biblical language can be offensive to Christians! Here is the brief story.

When you live in the city square, chances are good that you will be seeing many people. While cutting the grass Sunday evening, the American missionary walked by and I waved to say hello! He came over and after shaking hands I asked him why Doma was so kind to them? I asked in a playful mood, “Are you kissing their ass?”

He immediately recoiled and said “Watch your language around my son!” I don’t want to tell you his name here, but I called him by his name and calmly mentioned that “ass” is a legitimate Biblical word. I asked him if he had read his Old Testament? Then I chuckled and said, “Oh wait….that is also a New Testament word as well!”

I said, “ if the Bible is offensive to you then why do you read and preach about it to others?” I loved the dumbfounded look upon his face! You could have heard a pin drop because I could tell that the thought had never crossed his mind before!

He got offended and left before I could probe deeper about the Christian relationship with “city hall!” My last words to him as he departed were to “make your Christianity mean something to the community rather than keeping silent about the corruption!”
